A Stunning Dual-Lantern Oak Orangery in Hampshire
Project Overview
We recently had the privilege of designing and building a unique dual-lantern oak orangery for a listed property in Hampshire. This project beautifully demonstrates how a carefully planned extension can add space and style while respecting the charm of a traditional home.
The new orangery not only enhances the look of the property but also brings the natural beauty of the New Forest indoors. The space now serves as a comfortable lounge area, complemented by a practical utility room.
Thinking about expanding your home? Here’s how we made this vision a reality—and how we can do the same for you.
Client Profile:
Blending Classic Design with Modern Functionality
Our clients wanted more natural light in their home and a utility room directly off the kitchen. However, because the property is located in the New Forest National Park and had already reached its permitted size for extensions, we faced some planning challenges.
After working closely with a supportive planning officer, we reclassified the orangery as a conservatory. This clever solution allowed us to include a 75% glazed roof, meeting the clients’ desire for a bright, airy space.
The design features two distinct lanterns: one above the lounge for relaxing and entertaining and another over the utility room. The oak-framed lantern in the lounge ties the space to its natural surroundings, while the aluminium-framed utility room adds a modern touch.

Craftsmanship and Materials That Last
We chose seasoned oak for its durability and timeless look, making it ideal for this listed property. The warm tones of the oak complement the New Forest backdrop, giving the orangery a natural, welcoming feel.
For the glazing, we used self-cleaning, solar-control glass to keep the space comfortable year-round—cool in the summer and warm in the winter. This ensures the orangery is as functional as it is beautiful.
Client Feedback
We love hearing from happy clients, and this project was no exception. Here’s what the homeowners had to say:
Testimonial: ...delighted with our orangery
Read what Mrs. D said about their experience with Hallmark Glazed Extensions:
"We are delighted with our orangery—we just need some sunshine now to enjoy it! Please thank Mark and Ed very much for all their hard work and give them our very best wishes." Mrs D. (24/09/24)
We work hard to make every project a success, from the first conversation to the final installation and exceed client expectations. It’s all about bringing your vision to life.
A Versatile Space for All Seasons
This dual-lantern orangery makes the most of the natural light and views of the New Forest. The oak-framed lounge is a peaceful retreat for the family, while the utility room adds much-needed practicality to the home.
